your natural paraben-free skincare routine
how to get glowing, fresh lookin' skin
how to get glowing, fresh lookin' skin
it's not a secret that parabens are considered 'nasties' of the cosmetics and beauty world. If you don't know what they are, they're synthetic preservatives that help to prevent bacteria and fungus in various skincare products which ultimately increase their 'shelf life'.
Numerous studies have been done surrounding the potential side effects of parabens and how they may harm your body and guess what? They're believed to disrupt hormone function by acting as oestrogen, leading to a whole heap of reproductive issues. Yuck, yuck and double yuck.
Not only can they have a severe impact on your heath, they can also impact the environment. Parabens have been found inside the bodies of marine mammals, which have been more than likely washed into sewage systems.
We aren't huge fans of this, so we thought we'd put together the best paraben free skincare routine that you've ever had the pleasure of putting into practice, leaving you with a clean complexion and an even clearer conscience.
Before you even think about moisturising, cleansing or hydrating your face, you need to make sure you've gotten rid of all of the gross build-up on your body that is more than likely hiding in your skin's nooks and crannies.
Let's say it all together: ex-fol-iation.
Now you should't do this every day because your skin will get super irritated and aggravated very quickly, but every 2-3 times a week is a must if you want to keep your skin feelin' fresh, glowy and youthful as all hell.
The act of exfoliating will not only remove any dead skin cells or dry skin that might be clogging your pores, it will also allow any products that you put onto your skin to absorb deeper and quicker, and will allow for skin cell turnover so that your skin has room to grow.
We recommend using our coconut + lemon body scrub as it has the oomph to get rid of everything that shouldn't belong on your skin.
Simply get wet in the shower and massage a handful of the scrub into your problem areas (or all over), letting it sink in for roughly 4-5 minutes before washing it away, revealing the smoothest feeling skin, like, ever.
There's honestly nothing better for your skin than moisturising your skin.
Helping to alleviate your skin of its dullness and dryness, moisturising can be done twice daily in order to protect your skin against whatever it's bound to pick up during the day and to make sure it's super hydrated.
You should make a habit of moisturising right after you get out of a shower when your skin is already moist and can absorb the product easier. This will see the product repairing and soothing your skin all the while preserving your skin's hydration levels.
We recommend using our nudist repair balm or in other words, our favourite all-rounder.
Perfect for use on any and every part of the body, this balm is packed with all of the good nutrients your skin needs in order to cure dry and cracked skin and to reduce inflammation.
To use, scoop out a pea-sized amount of the balm and apply it with dry fingertips, lathering it over your problem areas. This can be under your nose, on your elbows or anywhere else your skin needs a little extra tender, lovin', care.
Now it's time to give your face some extra special love and using a face mask will do just that!
Not only does applying a face mask do a lot for you in terms of relaxation, the right face mask will also help to unclog your pores and provide your skin with a thorough deep cleansing.
Luckily, this is what our cactus clay face mask specialises in! Guaranteed to leave your skin feeling super soft and even more hydrated, this mask stimulates cell turnover (leaving you with fresher and healthier looking skin) whilst also working to increase elasticity and prevent scarring and pigmentation.
Suitable for all skin types, this mask has highly absorbent properties so it can target your skin's concerns quicker and more efficiently, helping to rid your skin of all of its impurities without removing all of the good stuff!
Simply mix 1-2 tbsps of the mask with 2-3 tsps of water until they form a clay-like paste. For extra hydration you can also add in a drop of your face oil!
Then apply the mask all over your face, leaving it for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water.
Last but certainly not least (in fact, it might be the most important step of the whole routine), we have the very-much needed, 'add serum to your face' step.
Adding in a serum or a face oil into your routine (you can use this daily) is necessary if you want your skin to look healthier than it ever has. Not only will serums help to nourish your skin and give it the essential fatty acids and antioxidants it needs to be at the radiance you desire, it will also help to reduce any breakouts or pimple patches that pop up on your skin. Hell yes.
The benefits don't stop there though.
Lathering your skin in a face serum will also act as a brightening solution for dull and tired looking skin (if you're not getting enough sleep, dw, your face serum has got you), and will actively support and strengthen your skin cells so you can get the fresh, healthy looking skin you've always wanted.
Perfect if you want a whole lotta shine, our prickly pear face + hair oil should be your go-to. Packed with natural ingredients that all work to give your skin more hydration than it knows what to do with, this serum will stimulate collagen production and protect your face against harmful, UV rays (as well as all of the above of course).
Drop a generous amount of the oil into your palms, rubbing your hands together to warm it up before massaging onto your dry face. Do this for a couple of minutes (take your time, there's no need to rush) to make sure your pores get the hydration they've been craving. Once done, grab a warm towel or face washer and hold it over your face, allowing it to sit there until it cools down.
